Upcoming PD Webinars

Course 1: EDI 101 - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion | February 4, February 9

In this session, you will become acquainted with the terminology associated with equity, diversity and inclusion work. It is important that the course begins with a foundation in terminology so that we can communicate with a common language. While this may seem basic or elementary to some, it is the springboard upon which any other learning related to equity, diversity and inclusion, rest. The session considers the EDI context in Canada, including the legislative framework, and then specific to Mohawk College. Participants have an opportunity to consider their own personal identities and how those impact and are impacted by working at Mohawk College.

Course 2: Inclusion at Mohawk | January 15, January 21, Februrary 5, March 9

This course provides an understanding of the ways in which Mohawk College has advanced along the continuum of inclusion as an organization. Participants will consider Mohawk’s history and identify specific policies and procedures that have been put into place, throughout the years, in order to ensure Mohawk provided a safe space for everybody on campus. Further, participants will consider Mohawk’s current and future commitments to equity and inclusion, and their responsibilities therein.

Course 3: Recognizing and Mitigating Unconscious Bias | January 22, January 27

Recognizing and Mitigating Unconscious Bias allows participants to become familiar with the concept of unconscious bias and its ramifications to the workplace. The model outlines organizational strategies that can mitigate unconscious bias on the macro (organization-wide) and micro (person to person) levels. Participants are required to consider their own biases, and how those may manifest themselves in behaviours or actions in the workplace. Participants also consider strategies towards making bias-free decisions.

*Course 1 is a prerequisite to Course 2 and Course 3 of the EDI workshop series.

According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, practices like meditation can help quiet your mind and look at problems from a calmer and more balanced viewpoint (CMHA, 2020). Over time, these practices can help you manage your response to stressful situations. During these changing times, an opportunity to take pause and focus on the present moment can be useful.
