Message from President Ron McKerlie

Since the announcement on August 16 that anyone coming to a Mohawk College campus would be required to show proof that they been vaccinated against COVID-19, we have heard from many employees, students and community members who are in support of this requirement. We have also heard from those for whom this requirement poses a challenge.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their comments and opinions with us.

When the announcement was made last week, we committed to sharing with you today the details on how to submit proof of vaccination and the process for requesting an exemption.

Proof of Vaccination

For those who have received or plan to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, the process for submitting proof of vaccination can be found here: How to submit proof of vaccination to Mohawk College.

Request for an Exemption

For those who would like to request an exemption for medical, religion/creed, or other reasons, the process for requesting an exemption can be found here: How to request an exemption (medical, religion/creed or other).

  1. Requests for medical exemptions will be reviewed first.
  2. All requests will require follow-up from a qualified member of our team.
  3. Individuals who receive an exemption for medical reasons will be required to do regular rapid antigen testing.
  4. As directed by the Province of Ontario in their announcement on August 17, individuals who receive an exemption for any reason other than medical will be required to complete an education program and do regular rapid antigen testing. Details on these requirements will be communicated in the coming days.

Vaccines approved by Health Canada and the World Health Organization have been shown to be safe and effective. If you have concerns about receiving the vaccine, we encourage you to speak to your family doctor to make sure you are fully informed before making any decision.

Mohawk College will be hosting vaccination clinics at the Fennell campus on September 9 and September 15. The clinics will open to students and employees. Family, friends and loved ones of students and employees will also be welcome to attend the vaccination clinics. Stay tuned to social media and email for more information on locations and times.

For further information about COVID-19 vaccination visit Hamilton Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine page.

Access to campus and procedures for entering campus.

Regardless of a person’s vaccination status, all requirements related to mandatory daily health screening, physical distancing and PPE (i.e., masks, face shields) remain in place for anyone attending a Mohawk facility this Fall. Please check the college’s COVID-19 Update webpage for detailed information on PPE requirements, designated entrances and daily health screening. Bookmark this site and check it often as the information can change.

Campuses will be open and accessible but students are asked to only come to campus if they need to be there to attend classes or labs, or require in-person access to services and supports.

Employees should avoid coming to campus unless it has been confirmed that they are returning to campus or they are coming to campus for a specific purpose. It is important for employees to speak to their manager before making any plans to come to campus.

Stay tuned to your email and the college’s website for the latest information and updates.

Students and employees are strongly encouraged to monitor their email and the college’s COVID-19 Update webpage for the latest information and updates. Mohawk social media channels will also be updated regularly.
