Mary Anne Peters
Professor/Coordinator, Programs for Newcomers

Mary Anne is this year’s recipient of the Mohawk Award of Excellence in the Faculty category. Mary Anne’s passion for education, dedication to students, and willingness to help others is evident in everything she does. She is an inspiration to colleagues and fosters an environment where the needs and interests of students always come first. If a student or colleague is in need, she is often the first to offer help, whether it’s to help with a crisis, advocate for a student, or just to listen. As the coordinator for the college’s Programs for Newcomers, she has established Mohawk as a leader in this area. Students come from all over to attend our Newcomer programs because of the stellar reputation it has in the community. In the words of one student: “I never felt, from the beginning of my journey to study in this wonderful department until the end, like a stranger or a newcomer. . . The department became a home for everyone because she treated everyone as family.” Congratulations, Mary Anne.
