2022 Mohawk College Awards of Excellence

Congratulations to this year’s recipients.

The Mohawk Award of Excellence is the highest honour for recognizing individual employees at the college. Three Awards of Excellence are presented annually to an outstanding employee from the faculty, support and administrative employee groups. This year's awards were presented at the President's Breakfast on August 31.

Congratulations to this year's recipients:

Julie Farnand
Co-op Specialist, Centre for Community Partnerships and Experiential Learning

Julie is this year’s recipient of the Mohawk Award of Excellence in the Support Staff category. Julie has been a positive role model to both students and colleagues since she joined the college in 2011. Her colleagues admire her dedication to students, and her ability to bring out the best in others. As a member of the co-op team, she has built strong relationships with employers that have led to more co-op employment opportunities for students. She excels in helping students acquire skills that are essential to their future success, while her professionalism and drive have resulted in numerous accolades from both students and colleagues. In the words of one student: “It is very clear that you have your students’ best interests as a priority and I appreciate it so much. I wanted you to know that you’ve positively impacted my future.” Congratulations, Julie.

Mary Anne Peters
Professor/Coordinator, Programs for Newcomers

Mary Anne is this year’s recipient of the Mohawk Award of Excellence in the Faculty category. Mary Anne’s passion for education, dedication to students, and willingness to help others is evident in everything she does. She is an inspiration to colleagues and fosters an environment where the needs and interests of students always come first. If a student or colleague is in need, she is often the first to offer help, whether it’s to help with a crisis, advocate for a student, or just to listen. As the coordinator for the college’s Programs for Newcomers, she has established Mohawk as a leader in this area. Students come from all over to attend our Newcomer programs because of the stellar reputation it has in the community. In the words of one student: “I never felt, from the beginning of my journey to study in this wonderful department until the end, like a stranger or a newcomer. . . The department became a home for everyone because she treated everyone as family.” Congratulations, Mary Anne.
